Poland has a tourist trade that is growing annually and is sure to keep on growing thanks to the country’s accession to the EU. With numerous areas of natural beauty, as well as a fascinating history and some wonderful medieval towns, it is a country that has something for everyone. The bridge between the East and West has been the battleground and settling place for many civilisations over the years, but Poland is a country with an amazing recent history – the capital city Warsaw was completely destroyed during World War II and has subsequently been rebuilt – compare this to Krakow, which escaped the war relatively unscathed and still retains some wonderful thousand-year-old architecture. There is a real contrast from forward-thinking city living where the young, intelligent population push for a stronger economy and a richer country and the more sedate, almost backward rural life where the 20th Century has hardly even caught up. Twenty-two national parks and hundreds of protected regions are scattered across Poland, and the astounding natural beauty of the country is something that attracts more and more visitors every year. Countless cathedrals, churches, monasteries and museums are also available to explore, with some of the most popular being the Warsaw Historical Museum, which catalogues the Nazi destruction of the city, the National Museum, St. Mary’s Church – both located in Krakow – the Church of the Virgin Mary, which is probably the largest brick-built structure in the world, as well as hundreds of other locations, buildings and general areas of interest. The main cities also offer interesting nightlife, with numerous theatres and opera companies operating, as well as the ever growing nightclub scene – Poland is an amazing tourist country. http://www.polandtour.org/index.html http://www.pl-info.net/en/index.html http://www.poland-tourism.pl/start.asp?tf=GB&x=8&y=14
